What are the best winter gloves for photographers? I've googled the question and the choices are mind boggling. Anyone have favorites?

I use them with hand warmer packets when really cold.

I have cross country ski gloves with leather palms, they are not to thick I can still use the dials and buttons on my Nikons and like mentioned before on really cold days or extended outings I use hand warmer packs too

I like the kind where a flap folds back to expose finger tips.

I'm often out in extreme cold, Yoop. The older you get the quicker you're affected by cold hands. My daughter fixed that problem for me last Christmas. I posted this review on my home forum last year. Have a look. It may be of interest to you.

I use a pair of my husband's Titleist golf mittens. They look very similar those that BigBear posted. The difference is that the fingers are loose, like in a mitten. I can just fold back the top enough to put one finger out or expose all fingers if I want. They are a medium to heavy fleece fabric. Easy to use, but apparently only come in one size. So are a little large for me, but that is not a problem. On a shoot with our camera club last winter, there were a few of us who had these gloves. Keeps my hands very warm and can use hand warmer with them if you want.

I have a pair of Lowepro Photography Gloves. They give a very good feel for the camera, but they are not for very cold weather. I'm in NYC, so they are fine for me, but I wouldn't recommend them for extreme cold. I also don't know if they are still available.

Isotoner gloves are also good, but not for extreme cold. I see that you are in Michigan where it gets Arctic like cold. You may want to get the Lowepro or Isotoner gloves for when it's not too cold and a different glove for the extreme cold.

I use fleece mittens with the fold back for exposing the fingers but I only stick one finger out to shoot. Works very well and keeps hand super warm. I bought them at Academy.

I have used turkey hunting gloves. they are thin so I can feel the nobs. you are right, if your hands are cold, everything is cold. I don't stay out too long, but if I had your rig I could. deb

After trying several kinds of fairly costly gloves, I got some at Walmart that have those tiny bumps that let you use an iPhone for $1. They let me use all camera controls without exposing any fingers.

I use a pair of tactical shooting gloves, they give me a good feel of all of the controls, and aren't too bad in cold weather. Since they aren't too thick, I can actually depress the shutter half way, to check my focus, and then shoot. I think the best way to find out which gloves you like the best is to try them out in a store and see how much you can feel with them. We have a Safety Warehouse here, and they carry a huge assortment of gloves for a lot of different kind of workers, from medical, to construction. It's a personal preference kind of thing, good luck in your search, and let us know what works best for you.

Under armor do me just fine warm, thin, wind resistant and I don't even know I am wearing them. $9.99 at a local discount store. Online $29-39 bucks.
