This is a shot of what was graded as MS 70 by a less reliable grading service. The head shot looks good but the legs reveal a nasty gouge in the leg.

The correct selection of wet/dry sandpaper with buff that right out!

Did the gouge occur before or after evaluation?

Oh how I wish it were that easy.
Just a little disappointing when I received it.
The case is sealed when graded to prevent this type of thing so it had to be like that at examination.

I should know not to assume people know about grading. Thank you.

Downloaded and zoomed in, that isn't gouged it looks not fully stamped in the minting or partly cut in minting. It is definitely hi grade I would not be too disappointed with this coin great collectable.

Nice resolution and detail. So no chance you can pass the flaw off as adding character?

Douglass,
I think the wet/dry sandpaper suggestion is great but you really should have suggested using something like a Dremel tool to really polish it out. Of course it could be used to polish the rest of the coin too so as to make it really, "shine".

I'm pretty sure its a gouge. It is however a nice coin, it's just not a MS 70.

Thank you. Unfortunately, no. I could however take a crummy photo and sell it on Ebay.
Hemm.

You are in a better position to see what it is by looking at it from different angles, diff. lighting and stronger magnification than via internet. I agree not MS70, that is over graded but not by much.

I totally agree Very nice shots, great focus. And yes it is definitely a gouge, you can see the displacement of the metal under high magnification.

Thank you very much.
It is a very nice filler piece. Fortunately it was part of a lot that I got at a very decent price. Here's one more shot of the obverse or back.
