Aloha y'all, I want to make photo cards, 5X7 half folded cards with 4X6 photos. I use an Epson Artisan 725 printer and Print Shop 12. My problem is that I can't figure how to print text on the 5X7 card. No format seems to work! The idea is to put text inside the card and picture on the front. Any help will be much appreciated.

Ed, there are card blanks that are printable on both sides. You have to run them through your printer twice, but they are meant to do so, so you won't get any bleed through. Moab makes some, as does Crane Museo. Both are available at ClearBags.com. Cost is between $20 and $45 per 50, depending on which paper the card is made from. ClearBags also has the envelopes, clear sleeves, and gift boxes to match.

Create a template for a page measuring 7x10, place the photo on the bottom end. Using a similar template, placing the text on lower end. Print text. then run it through again flipped over to put the photo on the outside. Fold and package as desired.

That is my problem. I don't know how to create a template! There doesn't seem to be anything in the help section.
Thanks. Ed

Elf,

Take a look at Hallmark
http://www.hallmarksoftware.com/products/Card_Studio_Deluxe_2014/main.aspx.

They have the templates already available, you can add text to any side of the card, and you can customize the cards with your own photos.

There are several printing formats that begin with a standard quarter fold sheet of 8.5 x 11 inch paper, to half folded standard paper.

You can purchase the printing stock from them, or card stock paper from Office Depot, Staples, or any stationary store that handles printing supplies.

I have used mine for several years and it always performs very well.

If you purchase your paper at a stationary store be sure you purchase the sized envelops for your project. Your requested print projects will not fit into a standard letter envelop.

There are lots of ways; here's the one I use. I buy 7x10 double sided scored 60lb Polar Matte card paper from Red River paper. They also have 5.25 x 7.25 envelopes, in various colors for sale. Now for the work part. Create a blank document 7 inches wide by 10 inches high. Then drag & drop you 4x6 photo on the lower half of blank sheet. Now print your document. While your print is drying, create another 7x10 blank document. Now type your message on either the top half or the bottom half, or both halves of your blank document. Now comes the only kind of tricky part. Place your dried printed card back in the printer with the already printed side down. (I'm assuming the printer prints on the top side of the page.) Also make sure that the already printed photo is placed down; that is, so the photo end is fed into the printer first. (I'm assuming that you're using a sheet feeder that feeds paper back to front in the printer.) Now I'd suggest you cut up some cheap or used paper into a few 7x10 pieces and do a trial run. After 3 or 4 trial runs you'll understand the process perfectly; then you just wright your own instructions, in your own words & spike it to the wall. Then you're good to go on your own cards for the next 100 years. I hope this help a little bit.

Check Avery Labels website. Product no. 8315 and 8387. Both have cards, envelopes and instructions. Great products.

I used Office, created a custom sized sheet and then played with it until I got the print where I wanted it. I put a small "Photography by etc" on the back of the card. Send me a PM and will send you the document.

You can buy Avery half-fold cards with envelopes at WalMart. There is enough in the package for printing 25 cards.

I created templates using tables in WordPerfect. You could probably do the same in Word. Just experiment a little until you get it right.

To make individual cards without buying card stock:

1. Make a 5x7 print of the photograph.
2. Make a 5x7 print of the words.
3. Glue them back to back, and fold if desired.
4. Experiment ... there are a lot of options. For example: assemble 4 prints to create a card with images and words on the inside and the outside that can be opened and closed (just figure out how you want to make a hinge to join them together. I just use properly sized and cut paper as a hinge.) 4x6 prints are cheaper, and are sized very nicely for readily available envelopes.

I use Gorilla Super Glue because it bonds quickly, but other glues might work as well.
