Brent Harders California surfing images were just killing me as I wasnt out there to get shots
..
In the local newpaper, I read about and event coming up on the weekend for Wake Surfing. What??..... Never heard of it
.
Well, thats not far from me so I went out Sat morning.
This is the upper end of Lake Austin. The lake is not very wide. 10 feet or less in water depth and you have to deal with what I call duck weed. The boats ran closer to the other side for less weed. Dark background due to far side in shade.
The boats uses a water bladder on one side and at the rear of the boat to create a higher wake.
In the following images, it looks kinda cool to see the lake level, a gouged trough (in the water) with the water raised up behind the boat.
They had two boats set up so that you could surf on the left or right side of the wake.
In the competition, you have about/approx. 1 ½ minutes for a run. You can fall once. Fall twice, and no score.
You scored by the number of tricks and I think, how difficult they are.

When you don't have the real thing you have to make do with what you have. You did a good job with those photos. Now you and Brent can compete.
Thanks, for the comments!

Thanks for looking and the comments!!

Thrilling but looks dangerous - kept expecting him to end up in the blades - looked like he jmped off at one stage to avoid such an event.

I don't know if there is a danger about the propeller.
If these are inboard engines, the propellers are just under the back of the main boat hull.
The little deck on the very back of the boat is added on and it is there for easy access for people to get out of the water (the little deck could be made into the hull design). I don't think they carry ladders like they did when I was out there in high school.
There may be a danger if the boat engine stopped running. The surfer would or could, run into the back of the boat.

Think I have been too inculcated in the Health and Safety angle. As you get older you seem to become more risk conscious LOL!!!
I had the opportunity to see a young lady wake surfing. The boat I was in was trying to keep up with her. My camera was zooming in and out. Finally I had the shot. So happy. A wake hit our little boat. I fell and my camera ended up in the lake. Another day will come hopefully.
