Several of my friends are Nikon owners. I am a Canon owner. We are trying to assemble descriptions with different names that are essentially the same. Anti shake vs image stabilization as an example. We would appreciate your input.

Have you googled this? I'd bet it already exists...why reinvent the wheel?

Your Canon Image Stabilization is VR, vibration reduction, in the Nikon world. Your mode dial is another area where the abbreviations will differ. As has already been said here, a Google search will reveal a complete comparison, I know I've seen them several places.

You apparently have some "not so qualified" Nikon shooters for friends. Only Samsung and Pentax call their technology "shake reduction". No self respecting Nikon shooter would refer to "anti shake".

EDIT: Anti shake is what Valium is for.

Valium? I use coffee. Doesn't cure the shakes worth a darn, but it's a lot easier to get! :-D

Nikon means "is a great camera".

Canon means "looks like a potato".

I do not mean to be rude but what is the value of doing something like that?
IS and VR are exactly the same as anti-shake but, so what.
Use your time shooting not caring for technical details. Learn your camera and what it does and make good use of it.
As it has been said, do not invent the wheel.

Also only Canon and Pentax seem to use the Tv, Av, terms. Most others are with Nikon with S and A. My Pentax K-5 will really throw you, it has a Sv (Sensitivity Value, i.e., ISO priority).

I was wondering that too. But I tend to do things and make lists like that too. Perhaps the are in an educational environment and what to be able to freely talk with others. That is a reason I might make such a list.

Great term list. But they need to update CC to mean Adobe Creative Cloud too. Too bad it was already used. I guess Adobe has that type of ego! My remedy has always been (for the last 18 months) is to say Ps CC, Ps CS6, Lr 4.4, Lr 5, Lr CC, or whatever it actually is.

I don't think Nikon calls that Anti shake, but Vibration Reduction.

Nikon refers to their close up lenses as Micro. Canon calls them Macro.
