Hello Everyone! I have been reading and enjoying the forum for many weeks now. Your questions and answers are fascinating! By way of introduction, I'm a retired computer programmer with a passion for "eye candy" and have spent the past few years greatly involved in volunteer work. I currently belong to a group called Life Reflections. We create photo montages and interviews of patients for their families during or after end of life. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix L820. (I can feel the eyes of the purists out there rolling. Ha, ha) I recently purchased Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 Ultimate to assist with editing.
My first question is this, I love doing collages of some of the pictures while adding background and text. I am sooo frustrated with trying to do this with PSP using their layers functionality. Surely there is some trick to doing this. I've tried using their user guide with no luck. Does anybody out there have experience with this and could you provide some "tricks of the trade?"
My second question, which is related, can somebody out there tell me what the difference is between a Raster layer and a Vector layer as it pertains to this software? I would be very grateful!!! :?:

Welcome to the forum Moonglow. 8-)
First, the little L820 is a nice point&shoot, and you can get batteries anywhere. That's why I have one.
Raster vs. Vector layer.
The pictures you take are raster images.
A vector is a line in mathematics, so a vector layer is a line image, with some form of mathematical instructions telling photoshop where to put it and how to draw it.
For example if you add an arrow pointing to something in your picture, each line of the arrow has a start point and a direction and a length. That's the definition of a vector.

Welcome and its the user not the camera that makes the shot. I too am struggling with layers too. Dont really understand what it is used for. Maybe since we shoot jpeg shots layers don't work as well. I dont know for sure either.
Lol it was very informative and went zoooom over my head. I am more confused now then I was before. With my shots I just use color adjustments. Thats all I understand. I have searched for working with layers but nothing I can use yet.
Welcome Moonglow, you will love this forum and get some great advice from the people here.

Welcome to the UHH Moonglow.
Layers are what allows images to be combined. There is a base or background layer, and then other layers on top.
For the recent supermoon, I got a picture of the Statue of Liberty, but didn't like the moon with it. I also got a picture with just the moon, that I liked more.
Was able to combibe then in photoshop, to make an image I liked. One image was taken with a Sony A65, and the other with a Canon Sx50. Both are raster images.
Greetings Moonglow, and welcome to the UHH.
