Hello, I have a canon T3i, I also have a Minolta 3600HS flash. Will that work with my t3i. I am also looking at the canon 430EX flash. Any reviews. I am a casual user. :-D

I don't shoot Canon, but the hotshoe mount is likely different & if useable at all, you would have to use it in manual mode unless it has an auto mode. That means a loss of all of the new features of the camera... Best to stick with a current flash & reserve this one to use as a slave unit...

Minolta cameras like Sonys have a different flash mount than any other cameras. That flash will not work on a Canon without the use of an adapter, then could be used in manual mode only if it will work at all. Plus the flash trigger voltage could be unsafe. Save yourself a lot of grief and get a Canon flash, that way you will have the ability to have TTL.

I assume you mean the 430EX II, not the older 430 EX.
I'm using the Canon 320EX flash with my T3i and 6D right now, and it works fine for the little flash work I do. The 430EX II should work just fine for you.

Wow quick rely.. Thanks all for your response..really nice feedback..I am also looking at a basic light meter.. Any pros n cons on the Sekonic

I use an older 430EX and am extremely pleased with it's performance, both in ETTL exposures, range and capacity. Well worth the price.

Save some money on your flash. Use a Yongnuo, they are direct Chinese knock off of all the Canon flashes. I have two, which are the Yn 565 EX II. They are great flashes, will meter for TTL, and using a Yn 622 trigger can be sync to each other. Go to "www.flashhavoc.com" that site will give you all the information on all the Yongnuo products. Some flashes even have built in trigger receivers.

Only Sekonic meter I have is the Studio Deluxe L-398, but i seldom use it...

I use the Sekonic 358, it is a great meter. It will measure for ambient light, and will give a reading for percentage between ambient, and flash. It is now discontinued, but can be picked up on Ebay, or even Amazon for a reasonable price. There is a newer model, with a color display, and more bells and whistles, but the price is high, and you don't get more, just more glamour. There is a lot of videos about light meters on Youtube, just do a search for "Lightmeters" and you'll get many.

I use these too - they are cheap enough to have one for each camera and then use one as a slave on those occasions when you need more light.
