Of course, there's always the fact that one is a parent or grandparent at one's table, and therefore could say something about "My house, my rules, etc, etc.
But, I am old fashioned when it comes to good manners, so it's probably better to suck it up and develop ulcers & heart attacks
I don't know when it started but it's lost cause, if you ask me.

I think it started in the 50's when parents and kids separated from each other. fewer set down dinners. less time spent together.

Good one, but does any family eat like that these days?
That was kind of a creative response/reaction on the part of the father, but my question is: Why couldn't one or both of the parents tell the boys to put the phones away? Phone aren't allowed at my table even if they're turned off. Nor is TV or the radio allowed when we're eating. And if the house phone rings, it's ignored. I just don't understand why so many parents struggle with who's in charge and why they think it's okay for their kids to be so rude.

That wouldn't have made a good video. :D
Great video, thanks for sharing it. When I showed my grand daughter, who was 6 at the time, how the old Smith Corona worked; she asks " I wonder if my teacher knows about this thing."

So much old technology has fallen by the wayside. Remember telegrams? Wiring money to someone? Western Union? Buggy whips?
And when I showed my IBM Selectric to my 4 year old grandson (who is now 21), he asked "Where is the enter key?"

Boy,has this father "hit the nail on the head"? The big ponderable is of course, who is to blame, the parents or the children, OR, the SYSTEM under which we educate and bring up our children. I have a feeling that it all started soon after WW2 when an era of no discipline came in and manifested itself as "my Johnny can do no wrong". These Johnnys then became school teachers in "charge" of more undisciplined Johnnys and the inevitable happenned: society without discipline.

So here's what I'm thinking:
A bunch of old people are complaining about the good old days in a gentle sort of way, because our roots are showing and we enjoy finding others who know that we're right?
2 questions now:
Are any of us younger than 65 (I'm 79)?
Do we all agree with the late mayor of NYC, Ed Koch, who said,
"It never was like it used to be!"?
