Need moss identification

For you botanists in the group, what kind of moss is this? I took this today near Onchiota, NY. For about a mile, it was hanging on white pine trees. We are way north, right near the Canadian border. In 50 years of living here, I've never seen this before. Is it like Spanish Moss? Just curious, thanks.

I ran this by a friend and his wife found a photo of the same stuff, with snow, on a pine tree at Whiteface Mountain about 50 miles away. So it's been around, does look like Spanish Moss, maybe it's moving north. Googled it, Wiki says it's a harmless "air plant" that isn't supposed to exist north of Virginia. It has commercial and folk craft uses. Curiouser and curiouser.

Spanish moss. I didn't know it grew that far north, but we certainly have an abundance of it here.
