I'm not posting this as a photo gallery shot. I've been looking at the HS400v, SX-60 and the Coolpic P600. The store didn't have the first two so I bought the P600. I have to say, honestly, that I don't really like it and I will probably return it (maybe). I'm going to try it and let it prove itself to me. I shot this a few moments ago, handheld, manual, shutter duration 1/250th, f/6 (I think) and auto ISO.

I've got a Canon SX-510 that is pretty surprising for a little camera on closeout not long ago because the SX-520 was on the way. I have had a P90 and a P500 before and liked them before they had the manual settings that your P600 has. It does better handhelds of the moon than my D5200 on a tripod with my 55-300. At least so far, I'm still trying. I'm curious, what don't you like about the P600 and what do you like. It doesn't shoot RAW, does it?

I've got 2 coolpix P520's & am amazed at what they can do. I have read a book on the above cameras that is very well written. Articulating display, 42x zoom, &
enough options for shooting to satisfy me as a serious amateur.
Can't remember what I read about the p600, but the p520 caught my eye after comparing a number of Nikon bridge cameras.
Got mine through Cameta Camera; refurbished but they have a 1 yr warranty like new ones. Got them both for the same as 1 Nikon 3300 would cost. Not trying to sell U on them; just thought I would pass the info on if it was of interest.

I can't see anything from the view finder and I don't know how to properly frame from the screen. It took me 4 attempts to get the moon somewhat properly framed. It only shoots Jpg. The store didn't have any other super-zooms in stock.

I really enjoy my 510. Shooting jpeg makes me focus on my shots and settings. I dont like sitting at computer in PP all the time. Thsts just me. If I had some money burning a hole in my pocket I would offer to buy it from you.

I just finished reading the manual on the P600. It appears to be quite powerful. Nikon packed a lot into a small package. I'm going to take it a little more serious than I have.

With the p600, nikon addeth and taketh away compared to the p520

Added, longer lens, wifi built-in.
Taken away, pixel resolution, gps.

And on the p530, they took away gps, and the tilt screen, and i think even the viewfinder.

They may have needed to lower the resolution so they could change the digital zoom factor.

Still, all three are good, just with a different mix of features.

For the p600, my wish list would be
Add wifi built-in, add raw capture, add speedlight hot shoe.

That is almost the D5300.

That's not the best moon shot I've seen here. There hasn't been much discussion of the P600 here, so maybe it's not a very popular camera for some reason. Have you tried photographing the moon with your Sony RX100?

No I haven't. I suppose I should. I'll try this evening.

I've been seriously thinking about trading/selling my Sony H400 for the HX400. Shorter zoom (50X vs. 63x on the H400) but, a better lens & more options. Bought the H400 for the long zoom not realizing the lens was as slow as it is.

I think you will happy you did. Look forward to seeing your shots from it. I always like to see what others can do with a bridge camera similiar to mine.

I have both, the P510 and the P600. I LOVE both of them but I wanted more zoom for Eagles and other birds. I will sell the P510. I'll be keeping the P600 for the power, no matter what else I may wind up with.

Before you sell your 510 could you post a comparison in zoom from both?

After using my wife's sx50 our daughter was impressed with the zoom and went out and bought the P600...She visited a few weeks back and I had the opportunity to take some bird shots with it.

Its fine little camera....the only problem I have with it is the lack of RAW...and that is a deal breaker for me.

Ordered the sx60...

I traded my P-600 for some dental fillings. I did not like the zoom because of the horrendous barrel distortion above 800mm. Both my Canon SX30 and SX40 had some barrel distortion which was easily corrected in Photoshop but no can do with the P-600. Also my P-600 had a nasty habit of freezing up at times. I had to remove the battery and reboot the camera to get it operational. Also on the P-600 couldn't find a way to set for auto-rotate. Also extra battery very expensive and need to buy external charger. In additionI found out the wi-fi is very quirky getting photos to my smart ass phone. Even though I am a Nikon guy, my conclusion is the Canon SX series bridge cameras are better bridge cameras. I currently have a SX-60HS on order. By the way the cash price for the fillings was $710.00.
