Try foamcore. It comes in all kinds of colors.
Try hanging with a string (using something like a boom) and a string on the bottom with a weight to hold it staight. Your back ground should be about 4ft behind the cross. Use a flash ttl and open your Apture to the widest.

Frenchie... great work on the wood.... My father-in-law used to do this with a hand scroll saw as a hobby. He asked me to photograph his work for history sake - was loosing his eyesite and stopped working on his wood. But, I used a burgundy tablecloth hung on the wall. The color suited the wood nicely and stopped any shadows ffom lighting or flash.. I shot straight on for most of it, and for the doll furniture I shot also at an angle. None of these were digital (Father-in-law gone now 15 yrs) so I don't have a clue where they are stored... but I will look if you want to see. Teri
Frenchie, I just downloaded a program called Faststone that is easy to work with too.... its free...

I'm still playing around. I don't like the color yet. I think I'm going to get a light to set off the side.

I don't think my flash help me on that one. Not to get off of that picture. This is my last project.
Have you tried taking the pics outdoors? Not necessarily in direct sunlight, my wife makes greeting cards and for some of them the only way to make them pop is on our patio, using the ambient light.
Also with the " Cross" pic try maybe aiming a light from the bottom upwards?

thanks wsmethers; I'll give that a try. I've got a sunroom, that should give me enough light. Frenchie
