FF not the only issue. CMOS vs CCD, processor (Xpeed 4 much better than Xpeed 3), lens (fixed, zoom, size) , WB (custom or preset) and the list goes on.

When someone compliments one of my photos by saying I must have a great camera, I compliment their cooking by saying they must have a great stove. Great pictures are more about the photographer. All this talk about gear ignores the fact that Ansel Adams would out do most of us with a Kodak Brownie

Ha!!!! I am going to use that line. I get that all the time and I love my camera, but it is not "great". (Nikon D5100) I don't know if they are intensionally insulting me, or telling me in their own way that they can do just as good if they had my camera.

As far as full frame vs cropped, my wife continues to buy expensive dresses, shoes and art work, then I will get full frame when I can afford it and I am not justifying a darn thing.

:D :P

For the reason stated in my previous post, no I don't. At least not since my days with film. Its just not worth the cost to me. ....... Coot

I don't care what they say about APS-C vs FF I just fell instantly fell in love w/ FF. 14,000 actuations and no oil spots.

""Any of you using smaller sensor cameras, have you formerly used FF and find the smaller sensors equivalent"".
Hi Gene, I still stand by my quote of earlier. I got a D600 for a really good price to flip and could not part with it after my first shoot.
So the D5300 had to go.

I had kind of the same thing happen. I have a D5100 and got to use a D600 at my camera store.

I didn't do any scientific testing with exact comparison, but I think that I can say that I had the same skill behind both cameras in the hour that I played with them both. :-) It was in the evening and the sun was fading fast.

I used a 50mm prime. Same lens on both. The FF was a lot sharper in the low light. The color was better too. After I zoomed in close on both sets of pics looking at the detail, I knew on that day that I will be saving for a FF and will not stop until I get one.

:)

Go for it Sprocket
About the model D600, some have had a problem with oil spots on the Sensor, get the camera store to find the history on the Sensor service that's been done on that Camera. Or have them send the camera to Nikon. I have 14,000 actuations and no oil spots.

The Full Frame sensor is the same size as you 35mm film. It should be right up your alley, an easy transition. I can't get film developed anywhere in my town any more.

Thanks Craig, I have heard that about the spots. They don't scare me away, but I am now considering the new Nikon 750. Still saving the cash. I intend on doing more homework and getting one of the nikon FF's in Jan. 2015.

Good luck Sprocket, I have had Nikons for 40 years and been satisfied with everyone of them. My next move will be a D750 or D800e. But the Tamron 150-600mm comes first.

I would love to hear what you think of it. That's on my GAS list as well. Plus a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter. I have the 2x for my 70-200mm F2.8.

I want to see how the Sigma 150-600mm Sport compares with the Tamron.

In one review that I watched it did slightly better than the Tamron. I just searched to see if I could find the link but had no luck.

I remember two things, Sigma was sharper from 400 out to 600mm, and the Sigma found focus faster on auto than the Tamron.

The review was comparing the two with a 200-400 Canon I think and I have a nikon so I was only half paying attention.

The sad part is that when the Canon was maxed at 400 and then enlarged to equal the 600mm Tamron and Sigma, Canon was sharper than both.

Was this a review with the newly announced lens, or the current Sigma 150-500mm?
