FINALLY! A wireless USB 3.0 external hard drive with SD card slot and its own battery for full portability!
These are new from Western Digital. They are full Wi-Fi compatible units available in 1 TB ($179.95) or 2 TB ($219.95) sizes. They contain an SD card slot so you can transfer images or any other files directly to it ANYWHERE, with or with out power thanks to its rechargeable internal battery system.
If you don't want to use the USB 3.0 port to transfer files, you don't have to. It will transfer files to any Wi-Fi equipped device. It will even allow transfers in from one device simultaneously while transferring out to another device. Its compatible with up to 3 devices at a time. GREAT for Wi-Fi networks! Almost like having a portable server in a lot of ways.
Prices are a bit high, but with these features not available on any other external, portable hard drive, I think they are well worth it!
They are the same size as almost all other portable USB powered external drives, but are somewhat thicker to make room for the battery pack and SD reader. Still easily pocketable though.
Very cool, MT. I may need to stock up on a few of these for my more technically advanced clients.

MT. Will you be selling them?

I hope to. Right now I could only get 4 of them, one for me and 3 to sell, but they are spoken for based on my promoting what they may be. WD is currently sold out so it may be a month or two before I have any inventory of them for sale.
Very nice....exactly what I would like as well. I missed your first post, but see it now in response to another request. I will keep an eye out for it. I will Google for as I have more questions. Thanks much MT.

I got my order in the day they were announced. Tried to get 10 but the cart said "unavailable". Tried for 6 and it had the same reply. Tried one last time to get 4 and the order went through. I may just be the only place in the USA that actually HAS them! LOL (see the pic above)

No problem. PM me when you get some.
Thx.
I have one on order with Amazon. I refuse to call it a "preorder" because it is a nonsensical term. You don't pre-order then order again. You simply order and it ships when available.
This is something I have been dreaming about for years. This WD Passport and my Galaxy Tab 10 tablet would alleviate the need to carry a laptop. But I am leaving for an extended trip next Monday and it is back-ordered! Everywhere! Oh, well, guess I will have to wait until next year...

Best Buy claims they will have them in stores by the 18th, maybe you could find one while on your trip. Fry's will be stocking them too, as well as other stores I am sure.

Best buy claims it can be delivered to the local store in 3-5 days. Maybe. The closest Frys is 130 miles. If they have it in stock. I will be heading to London next Monday and will not be back stateside until Nov1. Besides, I will not leave my laptop home until I am certain that I am comfortable with the setup. But thanks anyway MT for the info. Hey. Maybe they will be available in Dubai. They have everything!
