Tarrapin is a completely different kind of turtle. Protected, so you're not allowed to keep them. I've raised many snappers. Kept them over a winter then let them go in game preserve near my home. The last two snappers I raised, my son found swimming above a flooded storm drain in the street in front of my home. But don't be fooled, even the babies try to bite you, and they don't let go.
