Tamron 150 - 600 pics

Last Sat. I went to the Sprint boat races at St. John Wash. This was the first time I really tested the new Tamron lens. Before this I was using a Canon L 70 to 200 2.8 with a 2x extender. The extender hurt my pictures and I could only get 400mm max. I think the Tamron does a better job even at 600mm. I took these pictures up on a hillside about 75 to 100 yds. away. For anyone who cares to look and judge for yourself go here. http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-ccjLS/i-GNgHNDM These were all taken hand held from my lounge chair. Yes these are all photo shopped depending on what I thought they needed. And yes some are over sharpened. I post process every picture I take. My iso varied but around 640. Shutter speed was 1/2000 for all shots, and F stop varied but about 7.1. I kinda go by the rule of 2.5 to 3 times your max mm for a shutter speed. All pics shot with a Canon 5d mk3.

I have an SX40 and I've always tried to keep my ISO no higher than 400 to minimise noise. I don't see any problem at all with noise on your photos at ISO 640. Do you get rid of the noise in post or have you found a way to control noise in the camera? ...... Coot

Edit: Oops, for some reason I thought you had taken these with an SX50. Now I realize they were taken with a 5Dlll. Now I know how you did it. I still think they're great action shots! .... Coot

No one is having more fun than these guys. I was referring to the guys in the boats not the picture of our flags.

I ordered this lens for sports photos. After viewing your photos on Snugmug I am glad I did. Thanks for posting.

Here is a shot from my new Tamron 150-600, if I attached it right. Hand held at 600mm. ISO was 18,102!

I received this lens about a month ago. It never ceases to amaze me! This soccer picture was at 500 mm, shutter 1/800 and ISO 320 and F/10. Camera body is D4s. Oh yes, hand held too!
