That is: grow pineapples in Southern California.
My wife has been successful many times and here's
the photo to prove it. And also what she did and how
she did it.
Take a store bought ripe pineapple and cut the top off
leaving about 3/4 to 1 inch of fruit below the crown.
Let this dry out for about 2 to 3 days and then plant.
When you plant it be careful not to put it where vermin
like raccoons or possums can get them because they will.
She plants ours in pots against either a west or south
block wall (they hold the suns' heat) and wait about
two years for them to produce fruit. Fresh pineapple
is great on the grill (with a little butter and brown sugar
or maple syrup) and goes well with pork, chicken or fish.

Basic potting soil from Home Depot.

TY, going to give it a try.
Your wife has done well and I am going to try that. 2 years seems quite a short time to get fresh pineapples. I can't wait. Thanks for the post.
We've done that here in FL, they have even survived light frost.
Thanks for the info. Living in central Ohio, this probably won't work worth a nickel for me, but I bookmarked this thread anyway. You never know!!

This year's harvest of pineapples under the harvest moon.

My parents started doing that a few years ago, they get softball sized pineapples, but they sure are sweet. They really enjoy watching things grow.
I'd do it too, but Indiana isn't really made for growing pineapples. We grow chickens instead.
