As are the pictures and narratives you posted and I have to ask:

That "ship" looked like a floating barge, please tell me that the amenities were on the inside. Of course the other side of the coin is a certain Royal Carribean ship that was very pretty on the outside and trashed on the inside.

It's all relative I suppose but your pictures are fantastic.

Before you go off on a tantrum, you should know that I spent 18 months in Vietnam and lost some really close friends. It's jerks like you--that's right, I think you're a jerk--that need new hobbies, because making asinine comments about my loyalty to the troops sure makes you look like a loose cannon. "Dead soldiers" are empties, parts that are NFG; learn to live with the vernacular.

And, by the way, the discussion was focused on a compact flash card, not on a political issue.

You are not getting it now, do you?

This is not a tantrum but sadness over loss of life for what amounts to nothing for the next generation.

Tell me, How many welcomed you back from Vietnam? Was it fair to you? Do you really think that folks today care over what should have been learned?

How about Korea? WWII? WWI? Did we learned a damned thing? The answer is: "No."

If your friends or my family members that were killed in various wars were able to come back? Would not they be crying? They died for us. What are we doing with their gift?

Read my fist answer carefully before getting into a tantrum yourself. Understand what is under the words. Did I question anyone's feeling or did I question our collective memory and capacity to learn?

Wow! How did we all--if you didn't get embroiled in the rant, change "we all" to "some of you and I"--get so off track. I am embarrassed that I called someone a jerk; it's just that the whole conversation was being pushed off topic because of a couple of metaphors. "Old soldiers" and "half mast" aren't the exclusive property of us veterans, just as mourning our friends doesn't have to be accompanied by flag-draped coffins. Let's honor them by doing what they set out to do: make this a nicer world.

One word - Rongnongno - any time he responds to a post he brings out the worst in many of us. People who are not aware get sucked in - best to leave the porcupine alone.

Great picture. I think you got your money's worth out of that card.

I'm NOT going to get into all the bashing and slashing of "Old Soldiers" or Vet's, I''m one myself..... Now back to the topic...! I'm a Canon user, my EOS 30D had a 2GB CF card in it when I bought it, enough to get started or get by with for then/now. However, I ran out 1 day and wanted larger CF card. going to Walmart was a trip, they wanted $40.00 for an 8GB CF card. Back home I got on the Internet and Googled CF cards, yeah tons of results, but one caught my eye: "Pixelflash".... I went to the site and live chatted with a sale rep. To make a long story short, I bought 2- 4GB 300X(speed) for $14.98 each plus shipping. They both Formatted in seconds, and give great results. I kept the 2GB card as a spare/backup, always carry your CF Cards in holders/cases....not loose where they'll collect dust/dirt/etc. in the PIN holes......

In my opinion, you got your money's worth from that card. Time to buy several new ones and discard that one.

I just purchased a couple of CF to SD card adapters from Amazon for my wife's camera. Works like a mini sd card holder.
Around $20. each. She has used them for about 4 months, no problems.
She keeps a 16 gb sd in it.

Put it in the pile with all your other old cards. That's what I do.

I was going out to shoot today and realized the compact flash card I've been using was still in my computer's reader, so I'd have to use another. I grabbed my bag and headed out to the shoot. When I got there--I'm attaching a photo so you'll know I'm not dogging it--I grabbed a card from my bag and loaded it into my camera. I was surprised to see that my counter was blank. Hmmm...

Not wanting to waste time and the light filtering through some gorgeous clouds, I pulled the card out, noted that I had room for a couple hundred exposures on the SD backup, and shot away. When I got home, I put the compact flash in my camera (It's a Nikon D800E.) and turned the camera on. Still nothing on the counter. So I figured maybe I should format the card. When I turned the "Menu" on I got the hourglass; and that's all I ever got.

It's a 4G card, manufactured--"distributed" is probably more accurate--by Promaster, and is very old. I'd guess it's around 12 years old, as I bought it to use with my Nikon D1. Is it time to toss the old soldier?

I have a not small but not large box full of CF cards, because the have not fit or be compatible with any of my most recent cameras: 1st or 2nd generation Canon Rebel and Nikon D5100 and coupla point-shoots. So what kinds of cameras can take CF cards these days. I also have a bunch of Smart Media cards in the same box. My camera stuff drawer seems to be a history of me, sigh.
