Until this happens it will make no difference who controls Congress because Congress is controlled by the money.
Totally agree with that. Too bad that this is wishful thinking.

Wishful thinking. As you said, money is king. The disadvantage of having humans make laws is that they make laws that will be good for them.
Big Business gives them money, and the politicians give them the laws they want.
This highlights one of the main problems with the existing democracy. We are going to run out of track pretty soon, and it's going to be bad in ways we can't imagine. While other countries are doing their best to move away from Socialism, we are moving that way very quickly.
You eventually run out of other people's Money.
While term limits would be a great start, the system should also be re-vamped so that the Presidential primaries don't start in the same States every time. As it is, most States never get the opportunity to have any say in the Initial culling of Candidates, and therefore we get stuck with the same quality of candidates in each go round.
The system is very broken. :hunf:
1) Conventions are rigged. Swing states control outcomes.
2) The hanging chad suckered states into replacing those wonderful mechanical voting machines with cheap computers that a high school nerd can hack.
3) Media predetermines nominees with silly debates and free advertising for their candidate.
4) Term limits would help but a gallows built in the town square would be a more effective option.
Term Limits = One term in Office and One term in prison.
The solution is a constitutional amendment. Select representatives by lottery. Two year term, once served, you can never serve again.
Something that needs to be added to the amendment is to provide Insurance/Benefits for only 1 year after their term. expecting them to be able to re-assimilate into society as the rest of us have to. Not be on the public tit for the rest of their lives...

Term limits would increase the likelihood that people coming to Congress would anticipate returning to careers in the private sector, and therefore would, as they legislate, think about what it is like to live under the laws they make" -- George Will
More proof that George Will is an idiot. Actually, it's fine -- up until the last 11 words, which make no sense. (They have to live under the laws they make while they are in Congress too).
Now a far more accurate statement would be be replacing the last bit with "therefore would, as they legislate, think about which corporation they want to hire them with $3 million salary"

Nothing personal my friend but you appear to be the idiot here. Are you not aware that Congress voted to exempt themselves from Obamacare and from Social Security. Those are two quick ones that come to mind and I am sure there are others, lilt the children of legislators not having to repay student loans but I have not verified that so let's just stay with the big two.

Bzzt... Sorry. Wrong.....
Are
you not aware that conservatives are incapable of promoting their agenda without lying about their opponents?
While it was true at one time that Congress had a separate retirement program (actually it was for all federal civil servants, and pre-dated social security), that was eliminated in 1983. For the last 30 years, Congress members have paid into Social Security.
As for Obamacare, that's just, flat out, a lie. The federal government, like all employers, is required (by Obamacare) to provide a sponsored group health insurance plan for it's employees --- And it does.
I don't think term limits will impact Congress behavior all that much, or take money out of politics. It will still be the same caliber of sell-out scoundrels in office, we'd only be increasing the turnover rate!

As of 2007, the average annuity for a retired member of Congress was $64,000 for those retired under CSRS and $36,700 for those who retired under FERS. That is 2-3 times what a similarity salaried exec in the private sector ould expect. That is from the National Taxpayer Union.
My apology, normally I check things but I went with rumors. Won't happen again.
