Nice shot Dave... did you say that you shot this at ISO 16,000???

My first chance to use the Tamron 150-600 was at our Friday night football game. I'm really impressed with everything about it. The D4s really helped with it's high native ISO.
This is the first picture I have posted on UHH so not sure how it will look.

Yes, 16,000 ISO was correct. The Nikon D4s can go up to a native 24,000 ISO without a lot of noise. After talking to a professional sport photographer he said the higher ISO limits allow him to use less expensive lenses while shooting sports at night.

Great! Sounds like a really good camera... cost a lot too! If I had it to do over again I would have went with Nikon.... Canon use to be better many years ago but Nikon has taken the lead in recent years... Canon is supposed to come out with a game changer but I worry about the price... I am waiting to see what comes out... I never buy a camera when it first comes out... I wait to let the price come down... I bought my Canon 60D New body (average camera) about 2 years ago for $399.... it is still around $500-$600 dollars for the body.

It was a ton of money. I think you are smart to wait a little while for the price to come down. My grandson received a Canon for Christmas. I was really impressed with it as I have with a lot of other Canon photographers. If I probably had it to do over again I would have gone the Canon route.
And yes they are coming out with a camera soon with better features than Nikon D4s.

Very nice photo of a Song Sparrow. You kept the focus right on the eye. The depth of field is extremely shallow here, probably only a half inch or so. Well done!

I was noticing the shallow dof in this lovely shot. Can anyone tell me why f/9.0 would be so shallow? At any rate, it's well done.

Regarding the "depth of field" question...

Click on the link below to see/use the depth of field calculator... first choose the camera model and a calculator menu will drop down, then choose the lens focal length, the f/stop, and the distance to the subject and then press the "Calculate" button for the results.

P.S. The maximum open lens aperture is f/6.3 at 600mm for the Tamron 150-600mm lens...
