I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at here ...... but it was a marvelous display of texture and subtle color.

Not what I'd hoped for but was too afraid to ask.

Thanks Geezer. This reminds me of people who take photos of rust ...... it's not meant to be beautiful, but if treated with a touch of care can come out that way.

Not trying to sound like a wise guy Bob, but I have seen this before many times and I believe it is caused by an insect, caterpillar or larvae similar to a leaf roller. They infest the healthy leaf, suck it dry and roll it. BTW nice little mantis on one of your eaten leaves. Great job my friend. Really nice capture.

Yep, I figured out that what I had was detritus, and probably not a fit subject for a photographer's camera. I should definitely have gone abstract on this one.

Interesting photo. We have Gypsy moths that build 'tents' like this, and will strip a tree bare. Not sure these are the same thing, but might be a similar insect. The Gypsy moths are a late spring threat, not late summer, so probably not the same pest.

Good weavers, whatever they are.

Thanks Phil. I'm thinking of extracting the portions of the texture I like and doing something completely different with it. I will say, the colors came out very nicely, so I plan to use them again.
