Maybe it's time to re-think reducing our officer corps.

Link? I would assume you've been reading the news about the pink slips officers have been given while serving in Afghanistan, and the number of majors and captains being eliminated from the Army.

Just thought you had some new revelations. We have a neighbor who really wants to retire (a Major) next year, but is absolutely petrified that he'll be booted. Came back from Afghanistan in February, went TDY from Fort Carson, and just came home last month. They've bought a property in Texas, and now worried that he won't survive in rank to hit 20. The post has thousands of troops and there's been nothing but rumors everyday. God love 'em.

I got reduced when Reagan trimmed the budget.
But now is not the time for cutting the military personnel.

I certainly hope that anybody that has dedicated their lives in our military will be able to continue their service in the reserves if necessary. It's certainly a slap in these folks faces.

Heart....maybe you can tell me since I'm not sure, does any retirement accrue even if you don't hit twenty?

I'm pretty sure it don't accrue, but I've been out of the regular Marines for over fifty years now.

Don't know if this will help.

Heart, the link that you provided is for active duty members who accrue 20 years or more prior to retirement. However, this following link was provided in your link for National Guard and Reserve members who accrue 20 years or more service. Retirement is based on points, and active duty points are earned daily. The problem with retiring reserved is that you don't get your retirement until you're 60 unless you served in combat after 2008.

My Dad finished 20 years in the A.F. reserves after serving 7 1/2 years active duty during and after WWII.
