First was taken at ISO 800, flash, 280 mm, f8, 1/160.
Why do I get this tan color? Is it the WB setting?
I may not know what I'm doing with the flash on, as when it's on the only shutter speed is 1/160 most of the time Still trying to figure out this camera and Tamron lens, and taking lots of pictures to learn. Sony A58, with Tamron 18/270.
Don't seem to get this with my Sony Bridge camera with flash. See second photo. ISO 1000, 5.6, 1/1000.

am not a good photographer but it seems that the camera is set to focus on subject not the back ground.I don't know what camera you have but if it is slr they have many systems and they all let you PICK THE SYSTEM and then you can set what ever is available to you.am still learning my Olympus E520 much more complex then the point and shoot I have owned.

by the way the hummers are well focused and the subject definition looks good to me but am amateur.

what tan color are you asking about? if you mean the background, then it's just out of focus background, which is supposed to be that way. my hummer photos have out of focus green backgrounds, cause of the shrubs and grass. don't know what's in your background,,,but the birds are very much in focus. nice, very nice, photos

Thank you for the nice compliment. I was actually talking about the color of the bird, and the difference in the that. One is more black, and one is more tan. Someday I will get one that is the true color of the bird that I like, with much more practice. Might have got one today, but not sure it's in focus.

the tan conture feathers are normal, most of them i see and photo appear to be more tan than white, could be more than 1 bird and a difference in ages

Different flash units could have a different color temperature. The same is true with different cameras and lens.

The color difference in the photos from what I can see has to do with the time of day and the amount the on-board flash is filling or becoming the primary light.
As you get later in the day, the color temp will appear warmer. If the on-board flash is becoming the primary light, it will cast a cooler light temperature on the bird but not the background. That is what appears to be happening here.
You will also notice the cooler images appear to be sharper and more contrasty. That is because the duration of the flash is much faster than the available light.

Think I have a wb fir flash, but forget to change it. Thanks fir the idea
