It looks like black birds I hope I am right They are really quite a sight Some might call them a grackle too I don't think I would want them in my stew.

How cute your poem. They may be Boattail Grackles.
Did some research. Adult crows have greenish blue gloss on their wing caps and bluish violet gloss on the bodies.
