The current version of elements is 10. Are you able to upgrade only to 7?

And PE 11 is coming out very soon. But someone here said Amazon is selling PE 10 for $60 which is a great deal.

What if you put all your pics in an external storage device and then you install them in your new PS?

your current photos are all in at least one catalog, if not more (if you had created another catalog). I just updated from pse2 to pse9. after you install your updated pse. go to find open the find menu there should be a setting for finding previous catalogs. or go to the insperation browser to find a tutorial on updating older catalogs.

I cannot get used to this "catalog" thing Adobe does with photos. I realize there are several benefits, but over time I'd rather just keep it simple and not application dependant. If the catalog format has changed between revs, I'm sure Adobe has created a way to transfer/merge those database files. Regardless, make sure you have a good backup before you upgrade.

i unfortunately had 8500 photos and 10 years of work on a hard drive that probably was reformated and all the work went down the tubes. you could probably hear my screams of anguish all the way to Atlanta. never pays to be penny wise and pound foolish

Might be missing the boat here but my photos are stored on my computer. (I do back them up.) I upgraded from PSE 7 to PSE 10. I just open the photos with the new program. I am not familiar with catalogues and don't know where they are stored. At any rate, if your images are on your PC, you don't have to do anything but install the old software and install the new. Awaiting correction!!!! :)

Don't even think about it. Get Elements 10.

It will index everything on your hard drive for you.
