Hi,
I am looking for a starter dslr for my 11 year old nephew. Ideally either with one lens that can go wide and long or 2 kit lenses- one wide and one long. It would be great to have a bag and uv lens, etc. Looking to spend max of $300.
Thanks!
Alissa

Pick up a used Canon XSi with a kit lens. You should be able to pick one up pretty cheap.

I see you shoot Nikon. My first DSLR five years ago was a Nikon D40. I captured a lot of great shots with that camera. I just checked out Craigslist here in Austin and there's one for sale for $250 with two camera bags. http://austin.craigslist.org/pho/4508978818.html

A used D3000 will also fit that bill.

For $300.00, look online for used or refurbished Nikon D3100, D3200. You can get other deals from Canon and other manufactures.

Try KEH.com. The suggestions for the D3xxx from Nikon are spot on and can share lenses with you. You can do a search by price range to give you ideas of what's in that range.

I just upgraded to a D7100 and have my D3200/18-55VR/70-300/assorted filters/2x teleconverter/wide angle add ons/2x extra off brand batteries/magnifying eyepiece/box, manual, strap, etc. plus a case. I may have miss a few things. I will have up for sale as soon as I find time to take pictures and run the ad.

It has less than 6,000 shutter actuations and well taken care of. It will be a bit more than your $300 budget but, worth considering.

P.S. all the photos on my flickr page (link on signature) were taken with this camera (different lens).

I have feedback on other sites for reference.

PM me if you like, Bill H.

I have a Canon 1D that works great. I thin hit has a kit 50mm lens and a 35 to 200 lens. I have an external flash and bag. I would be will Ingleside to send it to you to try. I guess $100.00 would be a good prive if you like it.
I haven't used it in five years.

Let me know, I will be back home Wednesday and I can send it to you.

I let my kids run around with my Nikon D50 its only 6MP but with a zoom they get good shots, learn and have a great time. I'm sure you can get one with a zoom in your price range.
