I carry the manual around with me for my camera in PDF format on my phone and any other device I have. Read and re-read it as you learn more. Check out the different forums here, use the search button here for various topics that you have questions about, maybe join a camera club in your city. Try looking up your camera at youtube, there may be tutorials there. There are lots of resources out there for photography in general and specific cameras in particular. Hope this gives you some ideas. Oh yeah, take lots of pictures, even if you have to start out in Auto mode. You'll get familiar fastest by using it a lot. Take lots of pictures, throw away most...

First, congrats!

I think one of the disadvantages of getting a brand new camera like the FZ1000 is that there won't be too many resources for the specific model yet, since people just haven't had time to produce them.

While it won't help completely, you may want to look into resources for the Panasonic FZ200 and GH4, assuming the overall functionality is at least similar.

When you get it, please tell us what you think and post some shots taken with it. I understand that it has great video capabilities, if that is a feature important to you. I am considering this camera and the Sony RX10 for travel, to cut down on weight and space needs. Have you taken delivery of it yet? I know B&H still shows it as a pre-order item. Since it is so new, it may be a while before third party resources show up. When I first acquired my Nikon D7000 I bought a Julie Adair King book called " Nikon D7000 for Dummies" and David Busch's "Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7000". The "field guide" fits nicely in my camera bag and goes with me everyplace I take the camera. Both are well written and have great illustrations in full color and frankly I would have been lost without them when the camera was new. Good luck with the new camera.

I do the same. You'd be surprised how familiar you'll become with the camera by just having the manual always available as a quick resource.
