What is your opinion on the Photomatix Pro or Photomatix essentials software for a mac? The Pro is $99.00 and essentials is $39.00. Also, can it be used as a plugin for CS6 in photoshop?

Photomatix cannot be used as a plugin to Photoshop. However, in LR5, it will create a menu item "Export to PhotoMatix", then will reimport the changed image to your LR catalog from whence you can edit in Photoshop.

Thanks for the information

You can usually get a discount coupon for the Pro version. Check the link below, or go to stuckincustoms.com (Trey Ratcliff).
Many software programs offer discounts through online people, so it's good to check before you buy. I hate it when I check out and see "Enter Coupon Code," when I don't have one.

Jerry or 2 Dog, do you get the pro alone or the bundle pro to plug in to PS? I have the CS6. what do you suggest?

I use Photomatic Pro free-standing. I wasn't aware of plug-ins when I bought it a couple of years ago. Free-standing is fine for me.
EDIT: The PS plug-in isn't worth the money to me, but the LR plug-in might be worth it. I'll stick with the free-standing program.

I use it stand alone, noplugins. My primary editor is Photoshop elements . I have lightroom but. Quite frankly I don't understand it. I have found that I can do what I need using elements and photomatix. Keep shooting and have fun.
Upgraded to the PRO, much better features. Well worth the price differential.

What do you think of the pro bundle????

I'm not sure there was a choice when I got mine, but for the price, I think the Pro is a good program, although I have no experience with the "Essentials."
When there's a difference of $100 or more, I'll probably go with the more basic version. It's all a matter of what is offered in each.
I got Essentials, then the regular version, then the Pro. The Pro offers more choices as to how the image is processed.
And yes, I use it on single shots more than true HDR. It does stuff that most other editors dont, and does it well.
Pro. Buy once and you done. For me, when I try to get off cheap, I end up spending more because I first end up buying the reduced performance package thinking that I would not need all the "extras" but then I end up buying the package with all the features. So, I spend twice.
