Tamron 16-300mm test shots

I was asked to post some test shots taken with the Tamron 16-300mm lens if I ever got one in. I special ordered one for a customer and HAD to open it and check it for damage. Just to make sure there were no problems I mounted it on my 70D and grabbed a couple shots of some of the artificial flowers in front of the store to see what the zoom would do. I have to say that compared to the Canon 18-200mm lens I had awhile ago, this Tamron looks like a real winner in the image quality and sharpness departments. Not quite an L quality lens maybe, but at $629 its definitely a good choice for an all-in-one walk around lens.
EXIF data is intact, no editing, straight out of the camera JPGs.
I hope this helps those interested in this lens as I cannot take any more pics with it, my customer is on his way to pick it up.

I got the Tamron 16-300mm lens few weeks ago. I took many pictures on D600, D7000, D90 & 1J1 with the new lens. All pictures were good and sharp.
I like the Tamron 16-300mm lens better than the Nikor 28-300mm because it is small and not heavy. I love to put on the Nikon 1J1 (make it 43.2-810mm) for wildlife

Very sharp images guys! How do you think it compares to the newer Nikon 18-300 that came out in April? I can't imagine the Nikon being much better than these shots for the extra $270 they want... Also, does Lightroom and Camera RAW have corrections for this Tamron yet, or is it too new?

MT - Have you had a chance to try the new Nikon 18-300 and, if so, what are your impressions?

TIA

Haven't got my hands on one yet. I still have 3 of the original version left in inventory so it may be awhile before I get one in.

It looks to be a pretty decent lens, especially, for the money !

Several weeks ago, I had purchased Nikon's fixed 300mm f.4.0, but have not tested it yet.. Will mount it to the D800e and send a photo or two to let you make the comparison.. Who knows, perhaps the Tamron will end up being better..

Not exactly sure what you are asking. Yes, its a DX lens. No "crop factor" is ever applied on any full frame camera.

My D600 does an automatic crop on DX Lenses
Shooting Menu / Image Area / Auto DX crop on/off

All Nikon full frame bodies will shoot DX lenses in DX mode, but the crop factor is a moot point. If you want to use a 24MP sensor to take 11MP images using a DX lens, then that's your choice. You are still doing the same thing a DX sensored body does, and that is cropping a smaller portion out of the middle of the image as projected by the lens.
