old adolph was bat crap crazy be he had an eye for a view. thanks for sharing them
Actually, the poor dear was afraid of heights and only went up there a few times.
Interesting photos. I assume the people are tourists.
Strange to note that this gift to the Fuhrer from the Nazi Party was little used because Hitler was afraid of heights!

where i went to grade school was on a college campus, they had a small museum in the basement of the library. it had several "liberated" artifacts from berchtesgaden on display. some of the liberating troops were from this locale
Yes, the people are tourists. Its a beautiful place in an incredible location. Lots of hardcore hiking trails up there anda view that is undescribable. The history of it notwithstanding, its well worth a visit as is the town of Berchtesgaden itself.

Nice one's Drwilk. I wouldn't be surprised if its not as high as the original building, because of the amount of bombs that was dropped on it!!

i don't think it was bombed, but could be wrong
No, the teahouse wasnt bombed although for some reason after the war in the '60's the U.S. Army wanted to blow it up. Unbelievable.
The RAF was going to bomb it but because of fog and the fact that the place is small and made from the same stone as the mountain it couldnt be seen. So they bombed the Obersalzburg instead where Hitler, Borman and the boys had their "cottages."
As a note to my falibility, I called this the Teahouse. I know better. It wasn't, of course. (although it is now.)
I wonder if there is access to the tunnel going to the building. Lots of corridors straight then right or left turns with a machine gun room looking at the straight stretches. Was there in the early 60s.

The tunnel to this place is a perfectly straight tunnel, 407 feet long and ends at the elevator. I think the tunnels you're referring to are the ones under the Obersalzburg that connected many of the houses owned by the Nazi big-wigs. That are is down the mountain from this place and you can still go in a number of them.

Could be, I visited in 1961 and cobwebs are present now.

I was in the area during the winter when this was closed to the public....would have loved to have visited it...We loved Berchtesgaden too and actually stopped to spend the night two times on our trips to and from the area.
Beautiful villageand area. The tour of the salt mine there is not to be missed.
