Photoshop CC and Olympus Raw files?

I've just downloaded about 500 pix (all in raw ) taken with my new Olympus EM-1 I soon discovered that PhotoShop CS5 won't handle Olympus's raw file format. Nor is the required 8.3 plug-in
available to download. As of December '13, Photoshop CS 6 does incorporate the 8.3 Unfortunately, the going price for CS 6 ranges from absurd to obscene. I'm addicted to Photoshop after so many years, and I want to keep processing in raw. Is my nest step Photoshop CC? Cloud image editing seems like a somewhat
alien concept to me, so any advice you can give me will be, as
always, welcome and much appreciated. Many thanks in advance, pah

I you don't mind spending 10 bucks a month, then its a very good deal, all future upgrades are included in that price.

I have the EM1 and I use Creative Cloud Photography bundle, $10 a month for photoshop + lightroom + all the updates you can handle. It works well for me. Please understand that this software and your photo files reside on YOUR computer. Nothing is in the "cloud" except Adobe, checking on you every month to be sure you paid your bill. There is some cloud storage you can use if you want, I don't use it.

If you really hate the idea of a subscription service for software, I'd suggest you buy Lightroom 5, usually about $100, which will do a good job on your EM1 files, keep you organized, and give you great non destructive editing tools.

You can use Olympus Viewer 3, a free software from Olympus to organize and edit your EM-1 files.

First off, welcome to the UHH, your join date indicates you have only been with us a few months.

Yes, now would be a good time to upgrade to The Photoshop CC/Lightroom combo. For $10.00/month, which includes all updates/upgrades on both packages, this is really a very good deal.

As far as 'Cloud image editing', it doesn't work like that. All your pictures stay on your computer. Once you download the software, it stays on your computer. You can completely disconnect your computer from the internet for a month after you install the software and it will work flawlessly. The ONLY time you need to be connected to the internet is when the software checks in with Adobe once a month to see if you have paid for the next month's subscription. And even if you decide to stop paying Adobe, your pictures are still on your computer and are still accessible to you. All that will happen is that the software will stop loading up. Invoking the term 'Cloud' for this concept is quite possibly, hands down, the stupidest marketing mistake Adobe has made in their entire history.

As others have mentioned, LR-5 is a great solution. I use it with PS CS-4 as LR will develop the later cameras in raw really well and then use the edit in menu command to roll it over to CS-4. LR is a pain to get used to in its file handling methods for me, but when I finally got it down, it works really well with raw files, and then turning the file over to CS-4. This process really can make your prints pop too as I found out.

Takes a lot of hours to look at the LR Videos to understand how it works. Since I started using the LR-CS4 combination my digital developing took on a whole new level of quality for me.

I beta tested CS-6 extended till it expired and it is an awesome release, but alas with the upgrade cost well over 400 bucks with tax, so I chose to pass. The 3D element of CS 6 was intrigueing and I almost bit for the CC subscription, but found the LR-5/CS-4 combo does about all I wish to do with files.

You can get a 30 day trial of LR to check it out if you want to do so. Then spend hours learning how to incorporate it into your work flow is the next step. Not too sure which PC you use but I use WIN 8.1 and the file structure works better for me. I prefer total control of my files and where they end up and LR was a little clunky to learn to get around its interface. Once learned though, it is a really powerful digital package for photographers and a better solution since you already have PS CS-5 I think.

That's what I do! I use the Sony RAW processing program that came with the camera and then switch to PS for the final touch-up. Couldn't be simpler, or cheaper.

You can purchase LR5 and process your images with that. It has the latest raw engine from Adobe and you should be able to pick it up for about $100 - maybe a little more. All your raw editing can be done with it the same as ACR then the images can be opened directly into CS5.

"Creative Cloud" is what happens when all the marketing people get together and say, "I don't have Cloud, do you have Cloud? I'd better get on board with Cloud!" without ever talking to their own product development people.

There is no cloud involved. It is a software subscription plan, so you are paying $10/month to rent it instead of $600 to buy it, and you get all the upgrades while you subscribe.

Thanks for the info. Ten bucks doesn't sound bad at all, and I'm currently using the trial version of PhotoShop CC. Thanks!

I'm now using the trial version of Photoshop CC, and I really like it. The transition from PS 5 was incredibly easy. Thanks!
