Do you know if the prices shown are MSRP or street? There are some fairly high priced ones shown that are at or near the bottom of the rankings.

Not saying most expensive. Saying research and get the BEST you can afford.

This is an excellent review except that it is five years old and no longer valid. New products have been brought to market replacing older models. This test needs to be repeated with today's choices. (Am considering the Hoya HD2 - not a single professional review available that I can find)

My birthday is approaching, and I've decided I want to get a CP for my gear bag! I have a Canon 7D with a few lenses. The main lens I want the CP for is my 24-105mm "L" lens, which requires a 77mm filter. All my other lenses are smaller so if I ever have a need to use the CP on them I could use step rings to adapt this filter for the smaller diameter lenses.

Trying to decide which brand/type of CP to get is confusing to say the least. Currently I "think" I'm looking at either the B+W Kaesemann CP with Multi-Resistant Coating, or the XS-Pro version for a bit more.

Other CPs I've looked at are those by Tiffen (relatively cheap) and Hoya. Would be interested in thoughts on the B+W (or the others), especially from anyone with first-hand experience with these filters.

Thanks

My first choice is B+W. I've transitioned to using only B+W filters.

I have the B+W Kaesemann CP and have been more than satisfied with it. The build quality is exceptional. The front ring rotates very smoothly with just the right amount of "drag". It's brass fittings mount and dismount nicely. You will not be sorry if you go with this CP filter.

Yep, that's the one I went with!

This article also reviews UV filters I believe.

I resolved my same confusion with the following CP review: http://www.lenstip.com/115.1-article-Polarizing_filters_test.html

I am a fellow Canon 7d hobbyist with limited $ resources. In my search I also found a surprising lack of facts and a surplus or opinions on the web. Settled on the Marumi DHG series of CP filters and they have served me well.

Also planning upgrade to the Canon 24-105mm L lense and wondering if your happy with it ?

I just looked at lenstip.com and saw that Marumi filters did very well in their tests. Has anyone used these and would you recommend it over B&W? Thanks.

Yes, I love it! I upgraded my 28-135 "kit" lens to this 24-105 "L" and could not be happier.

My opinion, if money is not an issue and you want the best. Singh-Ray, Rodenstock and B + W.

I have been very pleased with the B+W that I've used for my professional work for a number of years. While I have and use Cokin, Nikon, and others the two brands of filters I find that I am most happy with are Heliopan and B+W.
Good luck and happy shooting.

Thanks Larry. As I stated above I have decided to go ahead and get the B+W CP.
