I think if it is checked it will stop all duplicates. When you go into the program, it updates automatically, so thats importing also.

I have never imported photos from my camera to picasa. The only thing I have ever done is some basic editing. When I open a photo and it has a button saying "edit in picasa". But when I open that one photo, picasa downloads every other photo I have taken.
Then if I open a different photo, the same thing happens. So is this taking up any memory space on my hard drive?

If you double click on the photo you want to edit, the editing tools are shown on the upper left hand screen. I don't understand how pictures download when you do that

Are you opening Picasa by right clicking on an image and choosing "Open in Picasa? "

Don't worry, it is very easy to lose track of who started the thread and sometimes what the thread is all about.

No. I open my picture files, choose a photo, and then there is a button at the bottom that says "edit in picasa". That is the button I push to open picasa.
But if picasa doesn't take up memory space on my laptop I won't worry about it. I am just trying to clear out some space.

I have the same problem with Picasa duplicating images. It drives me nuts!

I place the pointer over a picture icon and right click. A dialog box comes up and in the center "Open with" Place the pointer over 'open with' and another dialog box comes up with a choice of 11 programs to open the file. Bottom choice is to set one of them as default. Seems easy to me.

My post was to show how I go from windows explorer to get into anyone of the photo viewer/editing programs on my computer.

Starting on the lower left of you desktop,

1.right click the start button "open windows explorer"

2. select the drive and folder containing you photo files.

3. top right select "change view" select "large icons"

4. Right click the picture you want select "open with"

5. select anyone of the picture viewer/editing program

or, set one as a default.
Once the default is set, you only have to left double click to open the file with your default program.

I use them all at one time or another so I make the choice which program to open with.

The reason I asked how do you open Picasa is because I am trying to figure out how the files are duplicating.

As he pictures are already in Picasa, I wonder if using the open with (or edit with) puts another copy into Picasa's system.

Two of you guys have mentioned duplicates, and both of you open the application the same way.

I have not had time to test this out, but I am beginning to think a new entry is made when the existing image is ignored.
