Before I got PSE, I used Picassa for editing my photos. Still have it installed. Lately, every time I upload any photos, picassa makes another copy of photos already in picassa files. I was going to delete them, but then a message comes up saying it will also delete the photo from my main photo file (outside of picassa). If I uninstall Picassa, can I then get into picassa and delete all the photo files there?

Picasa doesn't store photos, it only provides a thumbnail view of where they are on your hard drive.

After following Searcher's instructions, if you want to use some of the handy tools Picasa has, you can go to "add folder to Picasa." and select just one folder. For example, create a folder on your desktop called "Picasa edits."

Even easier way, just go to tools, Folder Manager, change the green ticks to red crosses, close and reopen Picassa, the thumbnails are gone.

Even though I'm in Lightroom 95% of the time, Picasa is still great for emailing photos that would be much too large and for uploading to Google+ albums for sharing with the world or just selected people. I wouldn't get rid of it, too many useful tools for quick and dirty edits when you want to post something shortly after an event but before you get time to do serious work on the real "keepers" in a more powerful package...

If Picasa doesn't store images, why does it keep repeating so many copies of each photo?

It doesn't (usually)

When an image is put on your computer, Picasa does its thing, scans and creates a thumbnail of that image.
If you edit that image and save it, Picasa will create another thumbnail of the edited version - now you have two.

You will see these thumbnails in Recent Albums, Folder view, and if there is a face, it will appear in the facial recognition folders. Every time you edit and save a new copy, Picasa will create a new thumbnail.

These thumbnails are not the original photos, they are safely tucked away in the folders where you left them.

I always make notes when I learn of a new trick, but this one is eluding me.

Where is the "Exclude Duplicates" command in Picasa? I have looked at Folder management, tools, File etc. but can't find it.

Help please.
