I looked at the download and it tells all about the quality pictures you can get with the D800 megapixel power with a quality lens on a tripod. Most would have handheld at that shutter speed but you wanted a ultra sharp photo. Did you use the mirror lockup delay? I use it all the time on my D800e on this type of photo. Well done Larry, you have captured a first class photo.

Holy Moly! I want to use it as wallpaper for my monitor. However, the composition is so exact that I don't want to crop a sliver from top and bottom to match the 16x9 monitor.

Thanks for making me smile! You could purchase a different sized monitor??? :-D

Thank you kindly. It is good to hear from someone who really understands photography. When I shoot landscapes I always use a tripod and in this case mirror lock up, and a cable release. (Low ISO is an automatic) The d800 is a fine camera with lots of pixels that can provide a very sharp photo or can clearly show all the things you did wrong. Those pixels don't lie. Good camera technique is as important as exposure and composition.

Thanks for looking and for the compliment.

A torrential afternoon rain doused the Smokies and heavy fog and mist filled the air. As I drove to the Morton Overlook I wondered if there would be a sunset worth the 30 mile drive.
You decide. . .

ISO 250, f20, 1/125, GND filter on tripod

Please check the download to better see the mist and layers in the valleys. Thanks for looking.
