I dont know if its me, or if this is normal, but I took 180 photos, and had 14 keepers.

Why so many non-keepers?

Out of focus, didn't capture full explosion, missed shot completely, etc?

Just wondering. I have tried fireworks and have missed (didn't get full burst in frame, etc) many times.

Sounds like both of us could use more practice as I have only averaged about 10% keepers so far.

Its all about the practice. Some of mine was location. I was only maybe 50 yards from the launch site, so alot of overexposure in the launching. I think next year I am going to a different town ;)

Good job! The first one shows a bit of camera movement in the download version, but the others are nicely clear of any wobble. 50m sounds awfully close to me; when I did some the other day I was several hundred yards away using a 15-85mm lens. It can be quite frustrating, and the action is fast and furious - no time to rethink how you are shooting, and you may have to wait until the New Year for the next chance. My present thinking is not to use the lowest ISO setting as this requires too long an exposure, and you risk getting several bursts overlapping, producing a messy shot. If you go for a higher ISO, in the 300-400 range, you should be able to get a single burst, especially if you don't open the aperture too much (depth of field should not be too much of an issue). Another problem is framing. You never know how big the burst is going to be. The solution is to frame the shot to allow for the largest bursts and then crop the smaller ones, but of course you need enough megapixels in the camera to do that. But overcoming problems is part of the fun isn't it?

yield varies. some conditions yield higher or lower number of keepers. You state you only took 180 and have 14 to show for it, NOT BAD AT ALL.

Keep at it. When you try birds in flight your yield will drop thru the floor at first. Then improve over time.

Very well crafted images you post here

I do BIF, so I can relate to low keepers!
