That's another great idea, although probably hard to do as they are few and far between. I'll appreciate examples you know off. My variation of that is shooting things that start with a particular alphabet.
Actually that is quite an industry now. People have photographed objects looking like letters and you can now have your name, the name of your school, your home town or anything else spelled out in 4x6 letters mounted in mats with multiple openings and nicely framed.
I am a member of a club of 300 members and here is what we do. Photo contest on a set subject and have a visiting professional visit to be a judge, have two A and B grades and photos can be submitted as "open" when they are not set subject, photos are given points to determine a winner at the end of the year, have field trips, get a professional to give a talk on "know your camera", get a experienced photographer to give a talk on interesting subjects such as photo manipulation. Most of all, make sure the club is active as it will fail if there is not enough activity.

Hold a 50/50 raffle, it's not photographic. Sell raffle tics for a dollar. One lucky member takes home 50% of the pot, the club gets the other half. At the end of the year, the club buys a Ferrari with the proceeds, and all the members take turns driving it!! ;-)

We do the same, but we get a bicycle.
