In Nam, there had been a rash of accidental discharges, so an order came down, when we entered the compound, we were to have our bolts open so the personal in charge could stick their pinky into our chamber to make sure it was empty. For those who don't know, (0 dark thirty, and no lights advertising the compound, only way to check.) A few nights after the order was official, the Sgt. while checking our rifles, shot the tip of his boot off with his shotgun. No injury to him. No one checked his.
