go to the top of the page to the search feature .type in w/p cameras and you will get information on this subject.I have the nicon AW100 and use it for Skiing;w/w rafting and Kayaking and have never had a problem.but the OLy tough series has been rated No 1 by Oars rafting company for the last 2 years.
I only rarely have need for a splashproof/waterproof camera, so didn't want to spend much.
I had the good fortune to pick up a like-new underwater case at a local secondhand store for $15 (Canon WP-DC8, list price $240) and then tracked down a compatible point 'n' shoot camera to fit it (Canon A640, 10MP) for another $70 incl. shipping, off eBay. So I'm pretty well set up for $85. Not a lot to lose if the case leaks and the camera gets soaked and destroyed. This set up is good to 40M/130 ft. down, far deeper than I'll ever take it!
A couple things I wish were different... I'd prefer a camera that can shoot RAW and would like to have a flash hot shoe. The A640 has higher ISOs available, but I limit it to 200... maybe 400 tops... due to noise. So I'm keeping an eye out for a good deal on a recent Canon G series camera model and an U/W case to fit it.

I am looking for a camera to take kayaking, canoeing, etc. I won't be diving with it but it could get very wet. I'd like the potential of capturing high quality images....which most of the underwater compacts don't seem to do.
I just tripped into the Nikon 1 AW1. It is expensive but looks more like what I am looking for. Anyone have experience with this camera? Have any better ideas?
thanks
