Great looking subject..I'm sure Bobby and Russ can tell you how to make it POP!!..and check out Russ' tutorials!
Some compositional and lighting issues to work on.
1) you typically need more room out front. Leaving room out front where there is somewhere to look would help here. I would have went more room out front and less in back.
2) having more shoulders for a base would work better.
3) inside of the ear is the brightest spot. Your eye instantly goes there.
4) no catch lights in the eyes is indicative of a poor light source. When natural light is good on a face you will typically get strong reflections in the eyes.
As far as keeping the photo that is a personal choice. If you are looking to get a more professional image you could probably do better. Keep at it and post some more and work on improving your composition and light.
