I had to make a quick trip up the road today and happened to spot a GBH in a nest. After I pulled over to grab a shot, I noticed it was 4 separate GBH nests, all with quite large fledglings in them. I though it was neighborly of them all to share the same tree, condo style.
Looks like a high-rise to me. Great shot. ;-)
GBHs in Montana?! I thought they were shore birds, as in ocean shores. Shows you what I know! Fun shot...
That is just special beyond belief.
Makes me wonder if the younger birds are related to the original nesters?
Fabulous images
Great shot of the rookery. You are so lucky. We have one off the freeway and across the river so hard to get a picture besides I think it is a 150. dollar fine for stopping on the edge of the freeway unless it is an emergency. Thanks for sharing. Bee
Amazing! Impressive "seeing" on your part, MT, and excellent capture!
I read several articles today, courtesy of google, on the subject of heron rookeries, or heronries, and discovered that the number of young herons has decreased to a tenth of its former numbers BECAUSE of attacks by bald eagles whose numbers are increasing. What a depressing story. They are both iconic American birds and I hate to see either population under assault!
haha. thats a jackpot

Fascinating shot.
