I will be spending a few days in Cape May,NJ in a couple of weeks. Has anyone visited the area and can recommend places I should visit and photograph besides the Light House? TIA

The beach in the evening, around sunset. The "Cape May" life guard boats resting on the beach look really beautiful. Besides that, there's a lot of wonderful architecture everywhere, especially those countless bed-and-breakfast houses. Many of them display well-kept flower gardens, which are now in full bloom. As I recall, there's also a firehouse that is home to an antique firetruck - should make an interesting photography subject as well. Unfortunately I don't remember what street it's on.

There is a working fishing fleet with some very photogenic boats. A few miles north is Wildwood with a boardwalk and amusement rides that would be great for night photography. If you are in Cape May for the 4th, there will be fireworks off the beach. Congress Hall, the Chalfonte, the Mainstay, and the Abbey are architechtural subjects. The tourists walking on Washington Street Mall. There are MANY! old B&Bs.
There is a State Park right the lighthouse as well as the WW2 bunker on the State Park beack. As for birds: osprey, swans, egrets, geese, glossy ibis.
If you go out on the Whale Watcher, make sure to video the dolphin surfing the wake of the boat.
The firehouse mentioned by another poster is on the corner of Washington and Franklin.
Cape May Point (near the lighthouse) has interesting old homes - especially the "grey ghost" - just ask any local to point you. The sunsets from the Cove (end of Beach Drive looking west toward the lighthouse and St. Mary's convent at the Point) are beautiful.
The concrete ship at the end of Sunset Boulevard has a flag lowering ceremony at sunset every evening - very moving.
There is plenty more!
Feel free to PM me.

The "Gingerbread Houses" - big old house with lots of fancy, delicate trim.

Take the lighthouse tour in Delaware Bay--I believe you will see 6 lighthouses--great buffet lunch--captain gets up close and stops so you can get a good shot and from different angles--6 hour tour--submit photos to "Down The Shore Publishing" to see if you can get accepted for the New Jersey Lighthouse Calender.

Houses are very colorful also. And as long as you are near there, go over to Wildwood. Nice beach and boardwalk with lots of photo ops. Enjoy!
