I just installed the EOS update for my T2i. It does exactly as you say. Plug the camera it to the usb port and away it goes. Hope this helps.

What camera model do you have? Does it have wifi/lan capability to download pictures? If not, you may have selected an option in the installation process that is not available with your camera model.
Check your fire wall It may have inadvertently turned off any communications over the USB port
Also try to re-install your USB ports in the computer system hardware section could be a bad USB driver
Just a couple areas to check
Try another cable. Sounds like the camera is not connected.

Yes. It as a canon 6D.
Great camera. Could the wifi be turned off in the menu? I presume that you had downloaded pictures via wifi previously using the earlier version of EOS Utility and it worked okay. Is that correct?
I just downloaded this software on my new laptop. First off if you go to the canon folder on your programs page you will see EOS utility and Eos utility 2. The Eos Utility 2 is the old program with the different options If you want you can drag and drop this to your desktop so you now have two Eos Utility programs. EOS Utiliy calls the EOS Utility 2.
If the Eos utility programs won't start properly just turn your camera of and then back on this should wake up the programs ,
Good luck

When my EOS UTILTY stopped working a week ago, I uninstalled it and reintalled it believing it was corrupted. But still the problem is there. I called canon tech support to help me reinstall it. The same thing happened. Have any of here in UHH expirience this tech problem? Any help will be appreciated.
Am a newbie myself on this subject, but have a suggestion, ok? Is your camera connected to the computer? Know it sounds dumb, but checking out my program, it won't open without the camera connected and turned on. Hope this helps. OOPS! Didn't read far enough on the subject. Sorry about that and please excuse my remarks, ok?
:D
Not sure if this will work but sometimes when you uninstall software there will be something left over on your computer. After you uninstall the software one more time, go to the canon folder in the program files folder an make sure there is nothing left in the canon folder (be sure to save all of your pictures). I don't have a 6d but it seems that you have either a computer software problem (leftover files) or a camera setting that is not right. Maybe just for good measure you might want to restart your computer after uninstalling and getting rid of any leftover files. I wish you luck. You know that many, many 6d owners are using the canon software without a problem and so I bet it will work if you can do a clean install of the canon software. Good thing about the Canon Software is that it is free. Sometimes I wish I had some hair so I could pull it out. Again good luck!
Thanks picsaregreat. I will try your wonderful recommendations. I'll make sure it will be a clean installation.
Sir picsaregreat,
When I checked my canon program files, as what you have advised to me, I noticed that there are some files that I am sure not included when i reinstalled the EOS Utility because it bears different dates.
Like: MD30 MDP ( datedd back last year) MY CAMERA, ZOOM BROWSER. MY CAMERA DOWNLOAD PLUGIN, MY CAMERA FILES, ZOOM BROWSER EX and
CANON MOV DECODER.
Do you think I need to delete all of these. I am not a computer geek :-))
Thank you very much for your time.
It appears as if you do not have a connection from camera to computer. For most of us this is via a USB cable. The 6D has a WiFi capability so this is where I would be looking real hard. Either your camera or your computer is not communicating. I suggest you go into your networks section to see if it shows your camera. If not see if any other WiFi devices are missing. This will show you which side to check first. If you are trying to remote control your camera without result then you should dig out your manual and get acquainted with your camera's menus
If you have an install dvd/cd that came with your camera, you should be able to uninstall all of those programs and re-install all of them. I think that they may have some files that are used by more than one part of the whole. I am not a computer geek either but have ran into problems with installing, uninstalling and left over files. Sometimes it's a nightmare to figure out. Maybe the shortcut on the desktop refers to the old program and the new program is not seen by that old shortcut. It can easily be a very simple mistake. In the days of DOS, if you forgot one period (.) when you typed in a command it would not work. Windows still uses DOS but when you click and option, windows types the correct command in the background for you. Did you get an install disk? If you did, uninstall all of it and re-install, and all of the other parts should get re-installed as well. Are you using windows? I would hate not to have a computer but they are so confusing! And what Larrie said is also a good idea.
I used the wifi connection to transfer the images. I think it's working now. Thanks to all who shared their quality time to solve my eos utility proble. My thanks also goes to picsargreat.thank you bro. I think I don't need already the USB cable in transferring the images to my pc.
