Parkinson's disease

I don't know if anyone here has Parkinson's, but I'll bet we know of someone afflicted with the disease. That is why I posted this link:

I don't have Parkinson's nor do I know anyone who has but if I did, my heart would go out to them. Thanks for posting this, it's good to see that research is ongoing.

Me too Dan. Actually it has been a blessing for my photography since my diagnosis last February! The new DSLRs allow higher ISOs for faster shutter speeds, hence greater image sharpness. It has also forced me to use my tripod/monopod more, both as a camera support and a walking aid. About the biggest negative is I can't walk as far without running out of gas, so I'm forced to be more observant in my jaunts and the result is more interesting compositions as I have to work harder with what I got.

I don't have tremors but I do have the stiffness and very poor balance. I was just diagnosed in 2013 and I'm 70 years of age so it started late and mild. I don't know what to expect in future years but whatever it is I'm ready for it. I'm really lucky to come down with something that Michael J Fox has. He has really made a dent in Parkinson's research. Without his help I don't think we would be as far along as we are.

Please be careful, both of you, when walking. I have neuropathy, and used a rollator for a long time. They'll help you keep your balance when you walk and also give you a seat to sit on when you become too tired.

Parkie since 2004. Thanks to Parkinson's, do most of my shooting in my studio or in my yard.
Some interesting research is coming out of China and UK. Parkinson's is a serious problem across the globe.

Have you looked at clinical trials Parkinsons?
If not, do so you may find some help.
If you are near a medical school have your doc refer you there for treatment. Med Schools are really on top of things.

My heart goes out to everyone with such a debilitating ailment. You Hoggers that maintain your photographic endeavors get a huge helping hand - research has demonstrated that the best way to control the tremors is EXERCISE.

Could we Parkies form a subgroup to exchange ideas and photography techniques? I don't know if this is possible on UHH but it sure would be helpful, at least to me. I find that I have to innovate a lot of activities that regular folks take for granted, but I enjoy the challenges.

My brother has Parkinson's. I believe if you remain busy in doing something (a favourite hobby etc.) you like it really helps. Good Luck Dan

Dan, I know a few people with Parkinson's of varying degrees. I read the article and found it very interesting.
We have a Grandson in college who wants to be a doctor or research pharmacist. He is very smart, only going in his third year and is presently spending his summer on a research project. I sent the link to him suggesting he may be interested in a project like this. Getting a test early enough to help and a course of treatment would be great. Probably too late to do much for the folks I know but great for the coming generation.

Neuroplasty is gradually being recognized in neuro-medical community! Rather inspiring semi-technical books by Dr. Norman Doidge can be quite inspiring. Currently reading "The brain's way of healing".
