Where my parents met many years ago. This was the place to go hang out, so I was told :-). It's no longer open and there use to be Two of these Domes.

That looks like a shot waiting for a sc-fi movie.

Looks Like A long range radar site. (200 - 250 miles) depending on the radar. Bedford AF Station in Virginia off the blue ridge parkway has one the same but now the FAA runs it. (An ARSR-3.) It fills in the gaps of radar coverage for Air Traffic for the Center which direct traffic between their starting points and the ending points.

The Radome (As it's called) the sound is amazing. On the platform you can whisper and one on the Radar Pedistal can hear you. You talk and the sound will hurt your ears. It's really neat.

Most likely housed air defense command radars and/or early waring radars.

The partridge family called it muldoon's point.
In Long Beach we had signal hill.
Every town has one. Call it what you like.

This radar station is now a FAA CARSR (Common Air-Route Surveillance Radar) as of 5/14/2012. This operated as a Air Force Station (Saint Albans AFS) between Sep 1951 and April 1979.

The St Albans Air Force Station was where I was assigned in 1968 for about a year. I remember that we were to march in the Maple Festival where maple syrup was the big thing. When the parade took place, it was a lot like the small town parade in the movie Doc Holiday starring Michael J Fox. Everything from the town fire engine to anybody that had a horse to ride. Then can the Vermont National Guard. Very smart looking precision marching. Very military. Then came us. The U.S. Air Force guys from the radar site. It was like the movie Stripes only 12 years earlier. Many of us (me included) would get out of step, and have to skip repeatedly to get back in step. The local girls would yell and call out our names and wave. We would turn in their direction, smile and wave back. It was a fun time...
