What am I missing? I have always tried to avoid the "milky" water pictures. My preference I guess, but maybe I am missing something in my views. I always try to capture the action of the water, kinetic taste versus a passive view.

A matter of personal preference. I almost always shoot for the "milky" look.

Me too...frankly its all about shutter speed and iso...you have to experiment...your shutter speed will dictate the aperture...depending on the "look" you want...otherwise go fully manual...and set your DOF

keep the iso low...elsewise the highlights in the water will blow out

You must be a realist
(Had to check the map, I've fished Green lake, but had not heard of Dorr.)

A waterfall was among my first pictures, about 60 years ago with an old box camera. That blur inspired me to get an adjustable camera 2 years later, and I made a photograph that depicted it as I saw it. Many unnatural photographs are quite pleasing, however. Enjoy your experience.

have any of you gone to the Cumberland waterfall? I have visited (and tried to photograph) 3X the Night Rainbow there on the Full Moon with No success. What type lens would you use for that. I have a Nikon d60 with the Nikkor dx AFS18-55 mm 3.5-5.6G. Will that shoot the rainbow or do I need to buy a totally different lens? I do use a tripod and I set the camera on Manual & Bulb but i still haven't gotten the Rainbow. Has anyone on here attempted this???
