I recently converted all my Nikon Gear (by gifting it all to Grandchildren) to the Oly EP3 and EM5, with the 12mmf2, the 12-50kit lens for the EM5; a 40-150 and a 70-300 and that's the end of my purchsing photographic gear....but I still have my beloved Leica M6 and all the glass that I had (and kept) does beautifully on the Oly bodies....half the bulk, half the weight, Leica M6 with Leica glass, notwithstanding film- still the sharpest I can find!!

The bad thing about this forum is that it leads me down the pay of spending money. I just read a review of the Olympus EM5, and I want one. I will resist the urge to buy one, though. Dpreview has a great graphic with their review. How could anyone resist buying a camera like that?

I hope you're not addressing me. I don't have to invest in another camera system. :D

I still have my Leica M3 which I bought new in 1956 and three lenses, 50mm f:2 dual range Summicron, 35mm f:3.5 Elmar and 135mm f:4 Hector. I also have the short mount for the 135 which I used with my Visoflex.

I currently use a Nikon D7000 and I was wondering if anybody knows of any adaptors which would allow me to use the Leica lenses on my Nikon.

My primary objective would be to be able to use the 135 with extension tubes on my Nikon for close-ups. This would require an adaptor which would bayonet onto the Nikon and accept Leica screw threads.

Any help or advice in this regard would be appreciated.

Reading all the comments which constantly appear about which camera gear to buy and which camera is better than the other I often wonder where in all this debate is the truth that it is not primarily the camera which counts but the person using the camera.

The distance from the rear of the Leica M lens mount to the film plane is less than the distance from a Nikon SLR/DSLR lens mount to the film/sensor plane, so even if there were a mount you would not be able to focus on infinity. The additional distance for the Nikon mount allows room for the mirror. The Leica lens might work on a mirrorless body and there are adapters for that, but that will not help you.

You are better off looking for a nice used macro lens.

You will need an M39 to M42 screw adapter and an M42 to Nikon infinity focus adapter. See :-http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=m39+nikon+infinity&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xadapter+nikon+infinity&_nkw=adapter+nikon+infinity&_sacat=0

Leica M3 uses a bayonet mount. Unless the lenses are older screw mounts with a Leica bayonet adapter added, this will not work.

Hey Friends,

We all are aware of this unending war between the brands and the quality.

As I know, all these brands, be it Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, Canon and so on, have compromised on the image quality when compared to their analog predecessors.

Leica, being in a league of its own, is still better when it is compared to Nikon or Canon (although, I have been a Nikonian all my life) when it comes to issues like sharpness, distortion and all.

But, we also know that Leica is quite a burn in the pocket.

Lately, I have been contemplating to buy the Leica Monochrom, both to OWN a Leica and to have a journey back to the pleasure of Black and White photography.

I would like to know from all you experts as to whether the investment in a Leica in the digital era is worth "the burn" ?

The Monochrom is worth every penny, and it does extremely well with old and new glass.

Here is my pinion for whatever it'worth (probably no very much) . With regard to sharpness, unless you are printing mural size I don't think you will notice any difference compared to top of the line Canon. Nikon etc lenses. With regard to price, as above advice, just like boats if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

I have a one-piece Nikon Male~M39 adapter I bought for the very same reason - to use my 135/4.0 Hektor with extension tubes on a Nikkormat. (Got it at Wing Hung Photo in Hong Kong in 1972. Hope this helps. )
I have M39 lens mounts on a couple of bellows, primarily to use enlarging lenses.
You might check what Novoflex has to offer, also Adorama or B&H. Another option is to buy a microscope adapter in Nikon mount and epoxy the male end of a short ring of an M39 extension tube to it. My microscope adapter is 82.5mm long, but could always be cut down. Another way, perhaps the best, would be to epoxy the male end of an M39 tube into the female end of a Nikon T-mount. There is about a 1mm space all around, shim to center it. I would suggest removing the inner T-mount ring to avoid epoxy running down onto the Nikon mount.
Good luck.

When I see someone walking around with a Leica, old or new, I figure he is in a healthy financial situation . . . [quote=

Ha! You wouldn't say that if you saw ME with my Leicaflex SL or SL2, worn out shoes, patched pants, battered hat, 37 year old car, 24 year old Jeep. Like me, they refuse to die (so far). :)

If you can afford a Monochrom you can certainly afford the expense and hassle of a film version of the Leica.

The best B&W film still meets or exceeds the 18MP resolution of the Monochrom. For between $1,500 and $2,000 you can own an M6 or M6 TTL (the last fully mechanical version) in excellent or like new condition and use any of the Leica or Zeiss lenses. The M7 is a bit newer, more expensive and uses an electronic shutter. You can still find a new Zeiss Icon (electronic shutter) for under $1,600 that uses the same lenses.

I would invest the $6,000 you would save on a couple of nice lenses. In fact, I have done exactly that. I have the Zeiss Icon, the M6 and a growing kit of superior Zeiss and Leica lenses.

But to be honest, it is hard to tell the difference in quality between the photos I have taken with these two cameras and those that I have taken with my D7000 and a 35-70 zoom. But the Nikon is heavy and noisy.

If you really want to get some quality results you will need to move up to medium format, but that is a story for another day.

Yes, take the money and get the new Pentax 645D II ......

Oops! I missed that you have M lenses, mine are M39. Substitute M extension tube for the M39. RWR.
