I just bought the new Nikon D4s and have been using it a lot when I tried to open files in LR5 they would not open so I looked for downloads and found one that worked great now, my problem is I can't open any raw files in Windows 7i have been looking for upgrades to download but not much luck I did find one but not sure if that is what I was looking for I think it was a upgrade for the camera, when I bought my D600 I had the same problem and had to download a codec file and that worked great, I am not sure if that is what I wiil have to do for the D4. Could use a little help here, Thanks all.

Mike, using a few more periods ( & in the right places) would make reading your inquiry a lot easier. I know this isn't an English grammar & punctuation site, but you seem like an intelligent, capable fellow. After all, you have Nikons! Hope you get your answer.

As with all new camera releases, you have to update your CODEC files -- here's a link for the CODEC update that includes D4s ... http://www.nikonimglib.com/nefcodec/

I have had several Nikon cameras and Lightroom versions up to 5.4. I have not ever needed a codec file to use upload my files. What am I missing?

Sodapop, you're not missing anything. No CODEC needed to update LR, PS or PSE, but CODEC updates are needed to open RAW files from new camera releases in Windows. However, the OPs issue was not being able to open his D4s files in WINDOWS and for that he needs to update his CODEC files from either Microsoft or Nikon.

Ditto!

Window Explorer needs a codec to see the thumbnails

LR5 will need to be updated to use on the D4s raw files.

It looks like the OP is talking about this:

Windows doesn't generate preview thumbnails for Raw files (or for PSD files for that matter), only generic ones. You need a CODEC which will generate preview thumbnails. Such a CODEC will get updated on a regular basis to include new cameras.

GoofyNewfie, thank you for the Grammar advice, sometimes after working another 14 hour day and being on the road for weeks at I time I get a little tired and don't bother to check my post, I know I should but I was laying down on my back in the sleeper with the computer on my chest and I was just to tired. I have been trying to do this post for two weeks but every night it was the same old thing get some sleep and hit the road in the AM. No time for fun and games.

No harm meant, and I learned a few things myself.
I'm not that great at the computer hardware.
"I was laying down on my back in the sleeper with the computer on my chest"... reminds me of my wife! LOL!!
