Susan, You injected yourself into the DavidHeald1942 thread. Go to first page of THIS thread and you will see. If the info you gleaned from this was helpful - terrific. I would suggest that you post your question as a new topic. My comments were meant for him ... not you.

None of these are full frame but unless you can find a used one somewhere you won't be able to get a full frame camera within your budget.

Hi there! Thank you for these suggestions! I did find a camera on the television ads, a Canon EOS T5? It comes with a zoom lens, etc...and I can make payments. I hope I didn't jump the gun. SO anxious to get my hands on it! :) Do you have pix posted here? I'll check them out! Thank you again Gary. Susan

You can almost afford a Nikon D3200 which is a great camera for the price. I've only had mine a couple of months, so my knowledge is limited. Anyway check it out. But. . . in line with your price, after you buy the camera, there are all the important extras. And that applies to any camera you choose, i think. Good luck.

A T4i is a better camera than a T5 in my opinion. Television ads are not usually the best deals however if you already made your purchase then I'm sure the camera will serve you well. There are plenty of websites that will help you learn to take good photos. Learn the features of your camera and how to shoot in modes other than Auto. Then practice, practice, and practice some more.

As far as my pictures go I have posted a couple in the HDR section.

Good luck.

The Canon 6D is a nice full frame camera that takes interchangeable lenses. It's $1,699 without a lens.

Not sure if that qualifies as "budget" though.

So what do you really want and how much do you want to spend?

$1699 counts as budget, but you have to put the word BIG in front of it!

I'm thinking a Nikon, but want one better than my Canon
SX160 is with 16x zoom. I'd prefer one with full frame whatever it's called. I know I can't afford a slr, but interchangeable lenses is a must. Thanks a lot.
David

Don't mean to be crude, but with those limitations, you're SOL.

For a first time camera that's decent, you'll probably be very happy with it. There may be instructional videos or video reviews on the T5i on YouTube...

I think he ment he would perfer a full frame, but can't afford one . well you have lots to choose from. just get the nikon D5200. used or refurbished . it will do what you want . I don't think you will be put out any way . maybe a bridge camera canon , paniasonic, fiuiji ,

I own a D5200 with the kit lenses (18-55mm and 55-200mm) I have yet to get pictures as clear and sharp as the ones from that Sony Jim posted. Consider that my cheap kit lenses alone would cost more than the Sony camera. I've been told more than once to get good pictures, I need a good, $1200 lens to get 18-300mm zoom. He can't afford $2000 on a camera rig, and if he could, I doubt he could get better IQ than those posted by Jim. The Sony has a 50x super zoom, so you don't have to fuss around changing lenses for close ups and long zooms. Bridge camera's keep getting better and better, so while he may not (will not) be getting a FF camera for under $500, he can get a really good camera that has the capability of taking awesome photo's, and without the fuss of swapping lenses all the time.

I totally agree. I have two bridge cameras and both have yielded very nice results. The first is a FujiFilm FinePix S7000 which ten years ago was a $700.00 camera, 6 MP and 12MP RAW. Then I moved up to the FujiFilm S200 EXR a 12MP camera which has many features of a DSLR. I bought it used for $200.00. I have gotten many very good photos from these very versatile cameras.

i am sure you will be more than happy with your purchase ! i have the t3i and its a great starter camera and your one is slightly better again, of course all cameras have some sort of negatives and it can take for ever to choose, but as you got a deal in paying installments then i think you have done just fine in your choice, i get really good quality images from mine and with a little practice you will also ! enjoy your new camera and post a pic or two when your up and running with it ! good look

Based on the info you provided, I think the Nikon 1 system might just fill your needs, but its not "full frame", even though its sensor is a LOT larger than what you are using now.

Agree.

I just "upgraded" from a Nikon 1 J1 to a D7100.

Then I went on a walk with the 1 and took some terrific pictures (which I posted here)!

I have two lenses -- a 10-30mm and a 30-110mm. Since this is a 4/3 camera, that covers pretty much the entire focal range.

And the whole kit and caboodle (including charger, USB cable, etc.) fits into a small case that I have actually packed into a carry-on suitcase -- along with clothing and toiletries -- that made it unnecessary to lug a separate bag along.

The newer versions of the 1 (the J4 - just announced April 10) has some pretty impressive specs for a camera its size: http://www.dpreview.com/products/nikon/slrs/nikon_j4

At first, I thought I would sell my 1, but now I've decided to keep it as a backup and "small travel" camera.

Before the Nikon owners freak out...

you meant to say this is an APS-C sensor (larger than 4/3).
