I have a D7000 and will probably purchase the 610 around Christmas. I look forward to your insights of the 610 once you start using it. I will keep my 7000.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks Dodie, I will keep mine too, I feel they both have very strong points, and need a good backup as well.
Will be happy to share pictures once I get started.
By the way I love your guys, and I am down to only one Whippet, who is my little boy. He's a mama's boy for sure.
Luv my pets too!!

The D610 in DX mode is 11mp, the D7000 is 16mp, that isn't really a big difference, about 22% in linear resolution. Instead of a 20x30" print, you can make a 24x36" print, at the same ppi. Once you are used to the D610, I'm not sure what you would want to use the D7000 for.

Really for a back up. Also it was a better price for me than the D800.

True. If you are doing assignments, a back-up is useful. One of these days I'll take a second camera with me. ;-)

I will be using both for the event I was asking about next Thursday with two different lens, so I should be covered with close ups and the pictures in the wings, and not have to change lens during the event, I get to go the day before and they will be showing me what I have to work with, so I can try everything out.

The high-ISO performance (ISO 1600-3200 between the two is so different, you may get somewhat different image characteristics.

It's great that you get to see the venue and try things ahead of time!

I plan to use the 610 with whatever lens I plan as my main lens for the day and the 7000 will have the lens that is second choice. For example I may have the 610 sporting my Tamron 24-70 while the 7000 will be fitted with the Tamron 70-200. I was asking some questions of another UHH member and this is how he uses 2 cameras. So I am borrowing his idea. I am going to have to research what kind of straps/harness I want to carry them with.

I have pre-ordered the Tamron 150-600 for Nikon so I will have to decide how to transport it. I have a tendency to overpack my camera bag and then I'm miserable carrying all the gear.

Thanks for the complement on my spoiled brats. I know what it is like to have a pet you are very close to. (There is a rotten Siamese in here right now who doesn't like it when I'm on the computer.)

I would like to see some Whippet photos.

The one negative about the D610/600 is no round 10 pin connector.
It wasn't a deal breaker for me but I wish they included it.

The grey and white whippet was our rescue named Blizzard, he came with that name, and was the most amazing animal ever. Never a day went by that he did not give you a big smile and let you know how grateful he was that he had a home with us. We lost this kind soul July 4th. 2011.
The other is a pure bred from a breeder and has never had a bad day in his life and has that King of the hill attitude, and is my baby. He shows no emotion ever, what a difference.
He is going on 13 and has really slowed down, still love him to bits. They are a wonderful breed. Couch potato's in every sense, very low maintenance.

Sorry for the unsolicited response, but maybe using the "just paid off" D7000 for a while longer would be a better idea?

Classic!

Yeah, that stupid remark came back to bite me in the behind. It was suppose to be funny. Oh well I don't care cause I'm waiting for my new paid for D610 coming Monday, now looking to spend money on lens. It's a vicious circle.
I just may go into the used sewing machine business cause I had the same problem with that and quilting. I have a room full of material and 4 sewing machines. Don't sew a stitch anymore.

What beautiful babies!! They have the most expressive eyes. The rescued animals always know you have saved them and are always so grateful.

Love the photos! Thanks for sharing and sorry for being an accessory in the hijacking!! ;)

:D :D
