Tamron vs. Canon Lense
Trying to decide between a Canon 10-22 vs. Tamron 10-24. Purchased a Tamron 18-270 about four months ago and have been very pleased with it. Cost difference is about $260.00. I have a Canon 7D camera. Going to Patagonia and Iguazu Falls and need a wide angle for my trip.
I have no experience with the Tammy but the Canon 10-22mm worked wonderful on the 7D I had. You'll never go wrong with the Canon one.
to me it makes much more sense to buy a lesser camera body and put a top of the line lens on it than it does to buy a top of the line body and then put an aftermarket lens on it. Just my opinion....I've found you generally get what you pay for and that you almost never get more than what you pay for. In my experience many aftermarket lenses are great optically but not as great mechanically....there may be exceptions but there's normally a good reason why the aftermarket lens is cheaper. BTW I have a 10-22 Canon and it's a great lens.
I'm a Canon fan but have no problem with Tamron lenses. They have a far better warranty. If you're happy with the pictures, go for it. See if you can rent one or borrow one from a friend.
I shoot Nikon but, I do use a few Tamron lenses and they are good. The Canon lens probably is a better lens since Canon does make excellent lenses. If money is not an issue buy the Canon. Also consider how often you'll be using a 10-22mm lens. If rarely buy the Tamron. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with a Tamron. The only thing I would say is if you ever want to go to a full frame camera, make sure that what you buy is compatible (the 18 - 270 is not). Tamron don't always make this clear.

I have the 10-24 Tamron and have been very satisfied with the results on my Canon 60 D. I did not try the Canon 10-22 mm as I do not shoot that much at these focal lengths and I did not think the extra cost could be worth it. I will pay for an L at FL's I use a lot, but the 10-22 mm is not an L. For the scenics you will see in Patagonia et all, the Tamron will be fine.
